My research focuses on N cycling in livestock-cropping systems. Current efforts are directed at
1) improving N cycling and use in pastures;
2) reducing nitrate loading of surface and ground water;
3) testing the concept of phytofiltration to clean nitrate-contaminated ground water;
4) assessing the tolerance of different alfalfas to pollutants and stresses;
5) developing ways to select improved alfalfa germplasm to meet environmental goals; and
6) evaluating alfalfa germplasm for biomass and biofuel uses.
