Extension/Teaching

My Extension program while I was an active Extension Specialist has been a direct continuation of my research program. While concentrating this effort on N and nutrient management in general, I tried to primarily focus on manure management decisions and N rate issues. While I tried to make sure that all the research-based education was applicable to crop and livestock producers, I especially made the effort to target my Extension programs on agricultural professionals?those folks that could transfer the knowledge to the ultimate end user. The agricultural professional audience, comprised of fertilizer/seed dealers, consultants, agency personnel and field Extension personnel as been a very effective audience in transferring knowledge to producers.

I still continue to be active in the leadership and teaching of the Agricultural Professional Field School.

Although I have never had a formal teaching appointment, I have constantly tried to connect with undergraduate students via guest lecturing for various courses. I annually teach a 2-week section on fertilizer management for AGRO 4605?Management Technologies for Crop Production. I have also been a regular guest lecturer for ANSI 1011?Domestic Animals and Society presenting the environmental aspect of manure management.
