My research program, while an active faculty member, primarily focused on nitrogen (N) and particularly the refinement of N fertilizer usage and efficiency via fertilizer, manure, and legume management. This led to two distinct areas of research programs. One of these programs was the whole area of land-application management of manures. This research involved crop selection for applications as well as rate, method, and time of application. The other research area centered on fertilizer N rate management and soil or plant tests to determine optimum N rates.
